2018 Classes

Audubon's Birds Faux Tin Leaves
Faux Tin Workshop

We'll start our retreat on Friday exploring a new variation on my popular Faux Tin technique. Using images from John James Audubon's famous bird studies we'll create a variety of leaves and acorn pendants. We'll cut, file and sand our pieces to a buttery-smooth finish.

Image Transfer Etching Workshop

Saturday morning we'll jump into the addictive world of salt-water etching. This non-toxic and low tech alternative to chemical etching will open a whole new world of metal working possibilities. I'll share a simple image transfer technique to use as our etching resist. I've gathered images from vintage botanical illustrations to compliment our Faux Tin birds.

Fossilized Agate Beads

I feel in love with images of fossilized agate and knew they would make an amazing faux stone bead to explore during the retreat. On Saturday afternoon we'll play with clay creating beads in several colors to mimic the look of fossilized agate. You'll learn several different bead shapes and finishing tips.

Field Guild Jewelry Explorations

On Sunday, we'll tie everything together with several jewelry projects. Learn to create wire links using Now That's a Jig. We'll using the etching copper to make pendants, charms and bails for our jewelry. Instructions and beads will be provided for the projects shown, students are encouraged to use their elements to create whatever jewelry they'd like for our remaining hours of the retreat.

All class materials are provided. See the tools list on the What to Bring page here.
